Defenders sues town and DEM
Defenders sues town and DEM: Our organization has filed suit against the town of Coventry and the RI Department of Environmental Management. The complaint alleges that the Coventry shelter violated state animal care and cruelty laws and that the state veterinarian, who is under DEM was not enforcing the general laws of RI. Results: the suit is still pending, but animal control officers cannot destroy animals now without approval from the captain in charge, and euthanization is being done by injection by a veterinarian when necessary.
