Providence Animal Rescue League gas chamber protest: The Rescue League reported to the Providence Journal that it destroys 3,000 cats and dogs each year. More companion animals are destroyed in the gas chamber at the Providence Animal Rescue League than any other shelter in Rhode Island. Result: The public is becoming aware that this shelter may not be the best option for turning in a pet.
